Summary: In Germany, approximately 100 children per year suffer an infantile stroke. A 15-year old female patient with a hyperextension in the knee and an inversion of the foot in mid stance on the paretic side was examined for gait analysis. With the use of an adjustable ankle-foot orthosis (AFO), an approach towards a physiological gait could be achieved. The adjustable range of motion and the defined pivot point enable a passive plantar flexion at the beginning of stance phase. The remaining function of the involved muscles can then be used to provide the nervous system in the sense of the neuroplasticity with proprioceptive input.
