Orthoses in Daily Life
Cleaning and maintaining the orthosis regularly is indispensable as it is mostly worn directly on the skin. Moreover, stability and security have to be ensured at any time. That is why the orthopaedic technician sets maintenance intervals. In case of pressure points, unusual noises or discomfort when wearing the orthosis, you should immediately get in touch with your orthopaedic technician.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Detachable inner paddings made of towelling padding material (e.g. xDRY) can easily be washed in the washing machine at 60°C. Like that, it is not only cleaned, but material properties as e.g. strength are restored. Paddings made of foam (EVA material) have a closed cell structure. They can easily be cleaned with a damp cloth and disinfected regularly. Orthoses made of carbon fibre and casting resin can also be cleaned with a damp cloth.
Maintenance
Every day, a lot of strain is put on an orthosis. There are forces acting on materials and components, therefore it is normal that parts can wear out. This is why it is important to have the orthosis maintained on a regular basis. The orthopaedic technician knows all about it and can say right away if a screw needs to be tightened up or if readjustment is necessary.
